Mira Staleva at the Europa Cinemas' panel "The Future of Independent Film in the Streaming Era"

The 21st Europa Cinemas Conference took place in Lisbon from Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th. 500 professionals from all over the world will attend. The theme of the conference is EMPOWERING CINEMA-GOING CULTURE IN A HYPER-CONNECTED WORLD.

The Managing director of Sofia International Film Festival MIRA STALEVA received a special invitation for participating in the panel "The Future of Independent Film in the Streaming Era". With her on the panel were Jon Barrenechea (VP Marketing, MUBI, UK), Dr. Peter Merrington (Research Associate, University of Glasgow, UK), Jakub Duszynski (Head of Acquisitions, Gutek Films, Poland), Frédéric Corvez (Sales Agent & Distributor, Urban Distribution International, France) and Michael Gubbins (Partner, Sampo Media, UK).

For Mira Staleva, expert and exhibitor at Dom Na Kinoto, the cinema experience is stronger than ever. There is, however, a new generation coming up with different communication models. So, Staleva suggests, “Maybe in ten or twenty years we’ll be facing a different model but at the moment it’s only helping develop audiences… It develops the hunger, the appetite.”

The general attitude of the panel was that cinemas aren’t going to be a victim of on demand platforms. Staleva emphasized especially on the importance of education and promotion. Her participation Europa Cinemas Conference was supported by the Mobility programme of National Culture Fund - Bulgaria.
